Most people familiar with the First Watch location in Clayton (8001 Forsyth) will tell you the place is always busy. Even after a new location opened a few minutes south, in Brentwood Square, last August, business at the Clayton store remained strong. With the sale of adjoining properties and the announcement of a proposed seven-story office building, however, its fate remained to be seen at the time.
Clayton-based US Capital Development later submitted plans to the City of Clayton calling for two office towers, known as Forsyth Pointe. In mid-December, the St. Louis Business-Journal reported that the proposal “comprises nearly 1 million square feet, up from a previous plan of 166,000 square feet, and has interest from Barry-Wehmiller Group and Commerce Bank.”

When Commerce Bank endorsed the project and agreed to sell the building occupied by First Watch, the restaurant’s fate was sealed.
First Watch’s Clayton location closed after service this past Sunday, January 19.
“It all came quickly together in the last 30 days,” says First Watch district manager Neil Christianson.
Reminded that the departure creates demand for another breakfast concept in the neighborhood, Christianson teased, “And who knows? It could be us.”
In the meantime, Christianson reports that business at First Watch’s nearby Brentwood Square location remains robust.
