Field trip! (Unless, of course, you live in the eastern end of the metro area; then it’s just a quick drive.) The delightful Marcoots are a family of seventh-generation dairy farmers in Greenville, Illinois, whose cheese has gone from limited distribution in farmers’ markets to retail at many major local grocers, as well as to ingredients and cheese plates from some of the area’s best chefs. They’re holding their annual open house from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday, June 3. The free, family-friendly event includes playing games, petting baby calves, and (of course) tasting cheese. Marcoot’s cheesemaker will give a live cheesemaking demonstration at 11 a.m.
Later, Tater
St. Louis has been named as a site for the 2017 Tater Tots and Beer Festival: “all of the beer you can legally drink, delicious tater tots, a side of live music, and fun times.” Yes, this really is a thing, and it’s been going on since 2015. The St. Louis date has not yet been booked, although a dozen dates are already scheduled across the country. Sign up to receive the announcement here.
Dogtown Debut
Stone Turtle has begun refurbishing the Dogtown space once occupied by Felix’s (before it moved across the street), as first reported by the St. Louis Business Journal. The restaurant is located at the corner of Tamm and Clayton Avenue, a few blocks north of the eponymous Turtle Park. The bar will feature 200 whiskeys and the owner is Maz Nooran, most recently of the shuttered Flaco’s Cucina in University City. Look for a fall opening.
