A St. Louis favorite dessert spot is closing—sort of.
Baileys' Chocolate Bar, the very first restaurant from Baileys' Restaurants (also behind Rooster, Bridge, Baileys' Range, Small Batch, Shift, and The Fifth Wheel), announced that it will shutter Saturday, July 8 and reopen in the same space (1915 Park) soon after as two different restaurants.
In a statement, Dave Bailey expressed his gratitude to the restaurant's staff for turning the longstanding dessert bar into a St. Louis institution.
"However, tastes have changed," he wrote. "STL has changed. It is time for Baileys' Chocolate Bar (as we know it) to close its doors."
But it's not quite the end of the 13-year establishment. "We couldn't bear the thought of completely closing a place where so many folks had memorable nights with us," he noted.
In that spirit, renovations have begun to turn the bar's upstairs lounge into an "updated and refreshed" Baileys' Chocolate Bar, complete with an updated dessert and drink menu. Patrons can also expect a curated cheese list, limited savory fare, more champagnes and sparkling wines, and new cocktails.
And for those already mourning the chocolate bar's Flourless Molten Cake and the Baileys' Chocolate Brownie, don't fear: The updated restaurant will offer a "handful of BCB's beloved signature desserts."
As for the space's main floor and patio, it will be transformed into a new restaurant that will open in August. Bailey is keeping mum on the details for now. More as this story develops...
