Ask George: Are any St. Louis restaurants celebrating the Feast of Seven Fishes this year?

Yes, four that we know of, with different days and offerings

On Christmas Eve, many Roman Catholic families celebrate the Feast of the Seven Fishes, a Southern Italian tradition stemming from the observance of abstaining from eating meat on the eve of a feast day. The meal typically includes seven fish dishes. In many Catholic households, it wouldn’t be Christmas eve without such a feast.

Several local restaurants are offering their own versions on various dates:

Peno
Sicilian chef-owner Pepe Kehm serves his Feast of the Seven Fishes on December 24 from 5–8 p.m. The menu includes giant shrimp scampi, Peno’s signature braised octopus, mussels with ‘nduja marinara, smoked salmon pasta, sea bass with goat cheese butter, lobster cannelloni, and spaghetti with red or white clam sauce. Available for dine-in or pick-up, courses available a la carte or all seven for $125. Reservation book opens soon.
