America’s official motto is “In God We Trust,” but a more fitting national slogan might be “If It’s Edible, We’ll Deep-Fry It.” In Texas, home of the corn dog, visitors to last year’s state fair shoved down fried brisket, fried biscuits, fried sweet tea, and fried milk and cookies. Now, there’s a new contender for the title of St. Louis’ most famous fried food, a crown long worn by toasted ravioli. Concord Grill, South County’s preeminent burger bar, offers an entire menu of spruced-up deep-fried Twinkies. Battered and dunked in boiling oil, then topped with fruit, nuts, and sweet sauces, these cream-filled golden beauties are twice as tasty and three times as huge as you’re imagining—each order of two Twinkies is plenty to shorten the lives of the whole family. Here’s a sample of the artery-clogging, nap-inducing goodness.
1. Caramel Sundae Twinkies: Served á la mode, these taste like a caramel apple pie (if apple trees sprouted Twinkies). Naptime needed: See you tomorrow.

2. Strawberries & Cream Twinkies: This classic flavor combination never disappoints, even atop a Twinkie. The fruit means that you can almost delude yourself into thinking that the confection is healthy. Naptime needed: Two hours.
3. Reese’s Twinkies: The simple pairing of peanut butter and chocolate syrup is rich, decadent, and heavy. Consider adding a side of ice cream to balance it out. Naptime needed: Food coma.
Look Out: On Twinkie Tuesdays, children can begin the long journey toward a triple bypass by decorating their own Twinkies with sprinkles, chocolate, powdered sugar, and cherries, among other toppings.
