Three New Schlafly Brewing Company Board Members are Brewing Up New Ideas

Schlafly Brewing Company’s three new board members are already having fun. What exactly would they like to try? “A beer with the name Sage in it,” for one thing (all three are partners at Sage Capital, which leads the new ownership group). “Everyone knows beer makes you smarter,” Wesley Jones says. “Why not just say it?”

J. Spencer Finney, a big fan of the Food Network, says, “It might be fun to see an Iron Chef Schlafly event that pits the two kitchens against each other.” And John Lemkemeier wants a commemorative bottle dedicated to the 2011 Cardinals: “Each time you think your beer is finished, the bottle miraculously refills. The Game 6 version goes bone dry and refills just before it’s thrown into the recycling bin.”

Schlafly’s co-founders have a more nostalgic list of things they hope never change. For Tom Schlafly, it’s Schlafly beer at Cardinals, Blues, Rams, and Billikens games; the Maplewood Farmers Market at the Bottleworks; Burns’ Night at the Tap Room, “featuring bagpipes, haggis, kilts, and me on the bar reading poetry”; Art Outside; and OysterFest, “with celebrity shuckers from both coasts.” And for Dan Kopman, it’s cask-conditioned beers, sticky toffee pudding, Schlafly Pale Ale—and no TV, ever, at the Tap Room’s original south bar.
