Fish and seafood lovers will soon have another restaurant option.
The St. Louis outpost of Florida-based Bonefish Grill will be located on an outparcel adjacent to the 210-room Drury Inn & Suites Brentwood, a hotel scheduled to open this summer. Relish has reached out to Bonefish Grill for their construction timetable, but the intention was to have the restaurant open concurrently with the hotel.
The determination of exactly which restaurant would occupy the site had gone back and forth. The Brentwood-Maplewood Patch reported in February that Bonefish Grill and 54th Street Grill were in a dead heat for the site. By June, the Patch said one had indeed been selected, but which one was being kept under wraps. In July, Patch reported that neither would be chosen; then in September, word came that Drury had inked a deal with Bonefish Grill after all. Whew.
The restaurant will certainly enjoy a prime location: the eight-story hotel is located on the southeast corner of Brentwood Blvd and Eager Road, adjacent to the intersection of I-64/40 and I-170, one of the busiest intersections in the city.
Since its inception in St. Petersburg, Florida 14 years ago, Bonefish Grill has grown to 200 units in 34 states, 50 of them located in Florida alone. The restaurants serve dinner only, plus a Sunday brunch. Bonefish Grill is owned by Bloomin' Brands, the hospitality company that also owns several casual restaurant chains, including Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's Italian Grill, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, and Roy's.
This will be the second Bonefish Grill in Missouri; the first opened in North Kansas City nine years ago.
Bonefish Grill specializes in wood-grilled fish and seafood, served with one of four complementary (and complimentary) signature sauces. A selection of ancillary seafood items (calamari, crabcakes, fish and chips, fish tacos, a grilled fish “burger”) and a large array of appetizers (Bang Bang Shrimp is the #1 seller) round out a menu that also includes steaks, pork, and a chicken breast with goat cheese, sautéed spinach, artichoke hearts, and a lemon basil sauce.
The Bonefish website touts its “polished casual” atmosphere and “chef coat service,” minus “the stuffiness and unpronounceable menu,“ hooks designed to put today's diner at ease.
The folks at SLM headquarters will be watching the progress at Bonefish intently, as the new Drury Inn (below) is right out our back door.
