In the tale of the dueling outlet malls of Chesterfield Valley, score one for Taubman Prestige Outlets.
The third location of Nadoz Bakery + Café just opened in this, the easternmost of the two malls, and like its sibling in the Boulevard in Richmond Heights, I'm betting that this new location will be as much of a destination in and of itself as it will a place to eat if you happen to be shopping in the surrounding retail development.
The three Nadoz branches—including the original in the Coronado building adjacent to Saint Louis U. that gives the chain its name—have virtually identical core selections of sweet or savory crepes, salads, sandwiches and paninis, and desserts.
The Prestige location and the original also feature identical lists of eight gourmet burgers, except that the basic version is called the Coronado Burger on Lindell and the Valley Burger in Chesterfield. Among the other burgers, for example, "The Hill" burger (below left) is topped with salami, mozzarella and bacon, with a tomato pesto standing in for ketchup.
And then there's breakfast. Chesterfielders who may have grown beyond the selection at the nearby IHOP and Original Pancake House can now, beginning at 7 a.m. daily, get a Norwegian smoked salmon crepe (above right) or a selection of breakfast paninis, along with a more standard morning selection of eggs and waffles.
On the liquid front, Nadoz offers a variety of coffee drinks, frappes, smoothies and made-to-order fresh juices. A small selection of beer and wine is also available.
One very nice sustainability touch in Chesterfield is the use of repurposed wood from a 19th Century barn in St. Clair, Mo. for tabletops and for a vertical divider near the entrance.
