There won’t be a Taste of Clayton this year but there will be a summer edition of Clayton Restaurant Week. If the annual wintertime fête can attract 19 restaurants and over 20,000 diners in January, imagine what balmy temps and the lure of Clayton’s patios and sidewalk dining will bring cometh June? At this writing, what is known is the price–3 courses for $25–and the dates–June 9-15, 2014. Block out the week and check in periodically at claytonrestaurantweek.net for participating restaurants and menu options. A word to the wise–reservations. As in book them early, as sellouts are guaranteed to occur.
Cider Insider
Beer, wine, and whiskey dinners, we know ye well, but this is a new one. Annie Gunn’s & the Smokehouse Market and will host an Apple Knocker Hard Cider & Owl Creek Vineyard Dinner a week from Sunday, on April 27. The ciders, made in the Shawnee Hills region of Southern Illinois, come in flavors like “Bad Apple,” “Hard Knocks,” and “Sweet Knockers.” Cidermaker Brad Genung of Apple Knocker holds court, and guests enjoy dishes like seared Angus beef tenderloin carpaccio on grilled Irish soda bread, smoked and confit’d pork belly with hand-cut fries, chicken-fried lamb chops with sautéed morels and sweet pea risotto, and foie gras mousse with pain perdu and cider jelly. Re-Birth of the Cool
Cherokee Street’s Whisk Sustainable Bakeshop is celebrating spring with the return of the ice pops that drive magazine writers wild. They’re made in exotic flavors like avocado, cucumber lime, mocha, Vietnamese coffee, roasted banana and pomegranate hibiscus. The two newest flavors are lavender lemonade and horchata. All the cool kids are sucking them.
