When winemaker Estela Perinetti visited St. Louis, Pia and Matt Koster threw a wine tasting at their Ladue home in honor of the hostess’s cousin. Guests enjoyed a selection of 12 wines, as well as specialty foods from Chicago’s Buenos Aires Liquors & Deli. Wine connoisseurs enjoyed mingling with a winemaker known for blending artistry and science to produce award-winning wines from Argentina’s Mendoza region. One of a handful of women winemakers from Argentina, Perinetti is a pioneer in her field. She’s currently the winemaker for La Posta and Luca, and she previously worked at Bodegas Caro, a joint venture started by Bodega Cantena Zapata and France’s Château Lafite Rothschild. “Both of my parents are doctors, but I didn’t like being in hospitals,” she says. “Agronomy combines science and biology, and I love to work outside in the fields.”
