Held twice a year, The Factory Fashion Show aims to be more than just a fashion show. Rather, as its website states, the show's team hopes to "create a platform for collaboration between artists of all media, fusing fashion, and art with a theatrical, experimental element." Since 2016, the production has given local designers the opportunity to showcase their collections at a dynamic and creative event. On October 5, models will strut through The Last Hotel on Washington Avenue, wearing collections from five established and emerging designers, as well as from Factory Future, fashion students from Lindenwood University and Stephens College.
“The diversity and unconventional approach make fashion approachable, achievable, and inclusive," says Kristin Johnson, creator and producer of the Factory Fashion Show. "It also inspires designers to pursue an independent career that they may have thought out of reach.”
Previously, the fashion show has hosted such designers as Michael Drummond (a Project Runway alum whose exhibit Being Played opens October 10 at the World Chess Hall of Fame). This year, we're introduced to additional creative minds, including Jordan Khusnulgatin, who taps her love of the ocean as inspiration for her collection; Nasheli Ortiz, who approaches social and religious issues from the perspective of fashion; Q Liu, whose brand features eco-friendly fabrics and multicultural influences; Nyla Coleman, owner of House of Nailah, who embodies an ever-evolving aesthetic; and Ying Ying Ying, an artist duo comprised of designers Elise and James, who'll debut a line of inclusive streetwear that honors their love of androgynous fashion.

"We are hoping to show our audience a collection that breaks typical gender barriers while being edgy and fashion-forward," Elise and James said in a statement to SLM. "Audience members should expect a little rule-breaking, a little sass, and a lot of uniquely urban designs."
Beyond being an audience member, attendees can peruse and shop the work of local makers and artisans through Night Market, held at 1422 Washington, across from the boutique hotel. There, vendors include such names as Mother Model Management and the Saint Louis Fashion Fund.
Tickets for Factory Fashion Show and Night Market are $15. For more information, visit their website.
