Ivey-Selkirk Auctioneers may have padlocked its doors, but other auction houses have sprung up in its place, including Leslie Hindman Auctioneers (32 N. Brentwood, 314-833-0833, lesliehindman.com). Founded in 1982, the Chicago-based firm has regional offices in Denver, Milwaukee, Naples, Palm Beach, and since last July, St. Louis.
According to Hindman business development manager Bridget Melloy, the auctioneer will hold three sales its first year here; the Chicago office holds 45 auctions annually.
“We want the best prices for our clients,” Melloy says. “Often times we will see an estate and say, ‘These items are fantastic for Chicago, and these items we would love to offer in St. Louis.’”
As for competing with Link Auction Galleries and Garth’s Auctioneers & Appraisers, Melloy’s not worried. “We all have our own niche to fill,” she says. “There will be certain areas where they will excel, while we might excel elsewhere.”
