Julie Abner (314-606-8698, julieabnerinteriors.com) is known around town for her chic, spare designs. So when we asked her to create a room with a mere five elements, she immediately rose to the occasion. “Typically with a master bedroom, I like it to be just a sanctuary, so you can pull away from the stress of the day, from 0–[=work, from family,” Abner says. “I wanted it to be a really serene design.” The wallpaper is smoky gray; the draperies, also in a shade of gray, are sheer with a small design. “I like [the room] to have great style, but it is not ostentatious or overly done,” she says. “It’s all in the details and the mix of the finishes. I like mixing the different textures and finishes to give the room interest, but doing it in a subtle way.” The headboard of the bed is leather while the base is wood; the nightstands are two-toned, with different finishes. The chairs are chosen for both style and comfort. “The furniture reiterates the theme of the clean lines,” she says. “That tailored aspect is a signature of my design work.”
