Interiors in a Box brings a one-room makeover straight to your home, on your schedule.
For the last decade, Amy Studebaker Design has been a go-to firm for luxury interiors, focusing on renovations and new construction. But four or five years ago, Studebaker began cooking up a new concept for clients with smaller-scale needs. The idea, Interiors in a Box, has just launched. For a flat fee based on the room’s square footage, a designer from Amy Studebaker Design will do an in-person consultation, then return within a few weeks bearing a beautifully wrapped box. Inside the box will be a shopping list that includes a layout, furniture, and fabrics. We caught up with Studebaker for the details.

How does it work? Walk us through the client experience. You call us, and we will find out the square footage of your room, and we’ll find out the flat fee. We’ll complete a one-hour consultation [on-site] with one of the designers on my staff. They’ll sit and listen to what your needs are and how you want the room to function.
We’re going to make it as easy as possible for the client to get a visual. On our website, it shows pictures of the furniture layouts. We’re also creating content boards. The fabrics that we’re selecting, we’re also Photoshopping onto the furniture.
At the end when we come back to present the box, we go into detail. Our whole goal is that once we leave, the client is able to take it from there. We’re providing a visual concept, this scale, this image, this look.
What gave you the idea for the design box concept? Our firm really focuses on whole home builds and whole home renovations. I do get calls for one-room, two-room designs. A lot of the one-roomers get put on a waiting list. It’s six months to a year. A lot of people will wait, and I feel so bad! I wanted to try to create a concept that could help people who just have one room.
Is part of the box concept to allow clients flexibility in how they approach the project? It gave us an opportunity to give them design for their space, to give them their visual concept for their rooms that allows them to do it at their own pace, as their family and career allow. Everyone’s timeline is different for their needs. They say, "Ok, Amy, I’m going to buy these three pieces right now."
We’re going to provide a shopping guide, a very detailed shopping guide. [For example,] number one is a credenza. It has a picture, it has all the info needed to be able to go purchase it whenever is good for you.
Is this strictly a local venture? Our goal right now is to just really service within 45 minutes to an hour away. How do you ever get to know somebody? We really want the personal level.
