Courtship Caitlin Macri’s and Adam McDaniel’s relationship was foretold. Despite the fact that she was dating someone when they met in 2014, his roommate predicted that Adam would be her next boyfriend, which proved true a few months later when he invited Caitlin to Grant’s Farm. She chalks up the day’s blur to nerves, but Caitlin recalls Adam’s bad animal jokes-”He’s always joking about something,” she says-and they began dating quickly after. Both STL native Adam and Caitlin, who hails from Colorado, bartend at Tick Tock Tavern, while she studies Mental Health Counseling at UMSL and he teaches in Pattonville High School’s English Learner Program.

Proposal Before trekking off to the Ozark backcountry, Caitlin found a care package from Adam. She read his letter and knew. Home from her solo adventure, she asked, “Can we do this? Can we get married?” He responded, yes, and five months later, it was Adam’s turn to propose. On a trip to Hannibal, Caitlin found an E.T.-themed ring in a kitschy antique shop. Unbeknownst to her, Adam purchased it. A month before their engagement, she found the ring. Meandering through Tower Grove Park one day, as they approached as footbridge, he asked, “Do you want to do this?”

Ceremony The thesis was this: “Keep it simple.” Friend Corey Mcgraw officiated the humanist-centric ceremony, which took place on a sunny Fall afternoon at the Old Carriage Shelter in Tower Grove Park. Adam and Caitlin collaborated with Corey on the script.“I want to have hairy sasquatch babies with you,” Adam proclaimed to Caitlin in his vows. They presented sun and moon rings to each other and pins to friends and family, acknowledgments of gratitude and love. Guests joyously toasted the newlyweds with Stag and La Croix. Fifteen minutes later, a downpour swept across the park.

Reception Like Tower Grove, Tick Tock is home for Adam and Caitlin, making it a natural reception venue. Along with many friends and family, the bride and groom transformed the bar into a planetary scape of purple, turquoise, and silver. Twinkling lights adorned the bar. Centerpieces featured wine bottles painted like swirling galaxies, candleholders of Himalayan Pink Sea Salt, and constellation-patterned table settings. Adam, who also designed the invitations, created an outdoor photo backdrop complete with a sheet-clad E.T. cardboard cut-out, moon, and bicycle. A banner above the ATM read, “Adam’s & Caitlin’s Toit Nupz: Return to Party Planet,” a nod to their favorite show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In addition to a galaxy cake created by the Mother of the Bride, party-goers delighted in childhood classics Cosmic Brownies and Star Crunches. Commemorative koozies, space stickers, and plastic alien figurines, comprised the favors. The couple’s themed cocktail, a Busch and a shot of Old Crow, paired perfectly with Pizza Head pies. Friends delivered informal speeches, as everyone toasted, then toasted some more. Caitlin describes their wedding event as “bare-bones” and “kooky.” It was exuberant and silly, exactly as they had been, from the beginning.
