It’s officially spring! Everywhere we look its all about color!
One fun and fabulous trend that continues to stand strong is color blocking: combining different colors that support and compliment each other. Complimentary colors are natural opposites on the color wheel, so they work very well together, such as purple and orange, but you can use any combination that appeals to you.

I’m loving the coral and navy combination. Recently, I shot a story on color blocking for Michael Miller fabrics out of New York. We used a Cynthia Rowley pattern and Michael Miller’s Cotton Couture line to create this fun preppy/nautical look.
Here’s how to translate from the runway to the table/home:
1. Choose colors and inspiration pics from your favorite fashion mags or type in color blocking on Pinterest or Google and you will get endless examples.
2. Take note of accessories and even nail colors as they can translate to more colors and textures to combine. (Our model has a turquoise nails and green/white/gold jewelry)
3. Don’t be afraid to layer bold or unusual color combinations in your arrangements.
4. Find items you already have in your home or shop with your color story in mind, i.e. tablecloths, napkins, dishware, vases, candles, flowers, pillows, etc.
5. When setting a tablescape or designing a room, take cues from the outfit. Begin with your base color/fabric. For example, a coral skirt and navy top. Then simply add layers and accessories to your table or room as you would to the outfit.
We chose the color blocking trend but you can take this concept and translate any fashion trend you like! Get creative and bold, but most of all have fun!
