“My wife was a dancer with the Cuban ballet when we met, and I was a student. This is emblematic of her and makes me always think of her.”

“This is a Spanish translation of a Russian children’s story. Growing up in communist Cuba and as a child of the Cold War, we read much Russian literature, sometimes more so than our own Cuban and Spanish writers.”

“It’s a reference to the Cuban refugees but also to the famous children’s nursery rhyme we grew up singing, ‘Barquito de Papel,’ which roughly translates to ‘Little paper boat, my loyal friend, sail me away to the wide open sea…’ It’s very poignant, considering what happened to so many Cubans during the refugee crisis.”
Cuban Cigars
“Smoking one is an act of reflection. Cigarettes are compulsive, but cigars are contemplative and about finding your space. I designed the bands on some, the Microtobacconist and Brennan’s house cigar.”
