The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis will bring murder, marriage, music, and more to the stage for its 56th season, which begins in August with House of Joy, originally slated for the 2021-2022 lineup.
“I look forward to inviting new and old friends to our theatre homes to share in the beauty and magic of the wonderful productions that will light up our stages next season,” said Sharif in a release announcing the season’s selections. “As I programmed the 2022-23 season I was inspired by the blossoming life of spring. From our reinvestment in the arts to the renewal of our commitment to the St. Louis community; my goal was to provide an array of productions that align with our mission of sharing entertaining and thought-provoking world-class art.”

The mainstage productions will continue to be performed at the Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts and the Catherine B. Berges Theatre at COCA for the upcoming season. The 56th season also marks the return of the Steve Woolf Studio Series, which will bring “adventurous theatre” to the Strauss Black Box Theatre at Kirkwood Performing Arts Center.

House of Joy
August 26–September 18, Loretto-Hilton Center
Delayed by the COVID-19 omicron variant surge in early 2022, House of Joy will finally make its way to the stage as The Rep’s 2022-2023 season opener. The adventure-fantasy featuring dazzling locations, romance, and combat by Madhuri Shekar follows a young bodyguard as she risks her life to save a queen from life in the Imperial Harem.
Private Lives
September 30–October 23, Catherine B. Berges Theatre
When a pair of exes find themselves on adjoining hotel balconies during their separate honeymoons, drama, hijinks, and laughter follow. Join Amanda, Elyot, and their new loves in 1930s Paris in this romp by English playwright Noël Coward.
A Christmas Carol
November 18–December 30, Loretto-Hilton Center
Continuing a new tradition launched during the 2021-2022 season, The Rep will present its second-annual production of this Charles Dickens classic for the holidays. Bring the whole family and enjoy this return to London with Ebenezer Scrooge and his many haunting companions.
Putting it Together: A Musical Review
January 27–February 19, Catherine B. Berges Theatre
Pay tribute to groundbreaking American composer Stephen Sondheim, who we lost in 2021, with this revue featuring nearly 30 of his musical theatre hits. Hear songs from A Little Night Music, Follies, Merrily We Roll Along, and more in this playful show that takes its title from a Sunday in the Park with George tune.
Confederates
February 10–March 5, Loretto-Hilton Center
This new drama from MacArthur Genius Award-winning playwright Dominique Morisseau, produced in association with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, reaches across time to blend the stories of an enslaved rebel turned Union spy and a modern-day professor at a private university.
Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express
March 17–April 16, Loretto-Hilton Center
Mustachioed private detective Hercule Poirot must solve a murder aboard the lavish Orient Express in this Agatha Christie classic. See if you can unravel the tangled web of lies, motives, and personal histories before the train makes its way to the station.
Gruesome Playground Injuries
April 14–May 7, Strauss Black Box Theatre at KPAC
The Steve Woolf Studio Series will bring Rajiv Joseph’s Gruesome Playground Injuries to Kirkwood Performing Arts Center’s Strauss Black Box Theatre this spring. Joseph’s “hilarious and heartbreaking” love story follows the intersecting lives of Doug and Kayleen after a fateful meeting in their school infirmary at the age of 8.
