Fox Associates’ new Broadway series at the Stifel offers new opportunities for theater lovers

The series of short-run productions kicks off in January with “Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.”

Thanks to a new partnership between Fox Associates and the Stifel Theatre, a trio of Broadway hits are making their way to the Market Street stage in 2024. The multiyear agreement kicks off in January with Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.

“In many ways, this has been a long time coming,” says Fox Associates vice president of programming John O Brien. “The Stifel has had Broadway in many variations, and The Fox has been interested in getting involved in quite some time… Any way we can expand theater and Broadway in St. Louis is such a win for the city.”

The shows at the Stifel Theatre will allow the Fox to book more return and short-run engagements, giving Broadway fans the chance to catch a few more shows each year. Todd Mitchell, vice president and general manager of Enterprise Center and Stifel Theatre, says Stifel has undergone numerous updates to create a high-tech, comfortable venue, especially for music. “The acoustics are fantastic,” he says. “They didn’t call it an opera house for nothing.”

In addition to To Kill a Mockingbird, which is being brought back by popular demand following a successful run at the Fox, Stifel will welcome two musicals: Hairspray and The Cher Show. All three are scheduled for two evening performances.

“We always say we have the best fans in baseball, but I always say we have the best fans in Broadway” says O Brien. “St. Louis has shown such an appreciation for Broadway that we have an  opportunity to expand it at a time when theater and the arts are still trying to come back [from the pandemic]. For St. Louis to be actively growing and expanding is really special.”
