Folks came to The Factory ready to dance on August 19 as LCD Soundsystem made their grand return to St. Louis after nearly 10 years away.

The band last visited as headliners at the 2016 iteration of LouFest, where the band played an impressive set that left Forest Park buzzing. Upon their return, James Murphy and Co. served up a show worth waiting for.

Dancy favorites and much-appreciated deep cuts—see the full setlist here—filled LCD Soundsystem’s nearly two-and-a-half-hour show, and the band’s signature disco ball played well in all corners The Factory’s high-ceilinged space.

“Inside baseball—this set’s hard,” Murphy quipped before launching into “On Repeat” during the first of three sets of the night. The LCD frontman filled space between songs waxing poetic about everything from the joys of air conditioning—The Factory, unlike other recent tour stops, did not remind him of being “inside a dog’s mouth”—to the sexual proclivities of James Joyce.

As the lights came up following the band’s finale performance of “All My Friends,” audience members were all smiles. Many walked arm in arm, and several sweaty group hugs were observed on the floor and out in the parking lot. The vibes were, in a word, excellent. Let’s hope it doesn’t take another decade to match them.
