Everything you need to know about Lo-Fi Cherokee 2019

This year, 19 local acts are playing from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, plus there’s a wrap party.

When Bill Streeter organized the first Lo-Fi Cherokee event, he wasn’t sure if the format would work or if he would ever pursue the event again. However, since 2012 it has been an annual staple of the dynamic and eclectic Cherokee Street community. This multiday, hybrid event combines music, production, social media, and culture together in three parts: the performances (all day Saturday), the wrap party (Saturday night), and the music video premiere party (Saturday, June 8).

This year, Lo-Fi Cherokee will feature 19 local musical acts, ranging from newcomers to veterans of the St. Louis music scene. From 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, each of these local acts will perform in various businesses and shops on Cherokee Street. Streeter and his production team will film a live, single-song music video for each performance—documenting not only the musicians but also a moment in the life of a vibrant St. Louis community.

For Streeter, a goal of the event is to break down barriers between different musical communities here in St. Louis. As he puts it, “I see it as an opportunity to get people out to see acts that might be outside of their comfort zone. So if you come to Lo-Fi, you’ll see a hip-hop act next to a country act, or a jazz act next to an electronica act.”

The event gives the musicians not only exposure, but also a professional grade music video. Local musician Cara Louise played at the event last year, and she points out, “As an independent musician, video content is imperative to growing your brand and getting your music heard. The Lo-Fi team realizes that. They know there is a wide range of talent in St. Louis and they give everyone a fair shot.”

The public is invited and encouraged to attend the performances on Saturday. A full list of the performers, times, and venues are listed below. The wrap party, at Off Broadway from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the same day, will feature more great performances from these musicians. The video premiere party will be at the The Stage at KDHX in Midtown on June 8 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. To see past music videos, check out the Lo-Fi YouTube Channel.
