On the Spring 2015 runways, we saw the resurgence of the French manicure—with a modern twist. Gone are the simple white tips and flesh-toned bases. Now, the look comes in unique color combinations, double tips, and in reverse. Here’s how to customize your French manicure this spring.
Double Tips
Julie Kandalec for Essie created a double French tip for Sophie Theallet’s collection. To get the look, paint a half-moon of Essie’s “Fiji” ($8.50) on each tip. Then paint “Turquoise & Caicos” ($8.50) on the very tips of your nails over “Fiji.”

Manicurist Holly Falcone for KISS Products, Inc. mimicked the Alon Livne collection’s futuristic feel with a pointed, almond-shaped nail painted with a glittery silver tip and a thin white line using Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-On Manicure in Vexed & Vicious ($7.99) and KISS Nail Artist Paint & Stencil Kit in Gala ($7.29).
Unexpected Color Combinations
At Zang Toi, manicurist Cinnamon Bowser for Zoya paired Zoya nail polish in “Belinda” ($9), a purple metallic shade, with a thin curve of its pastel compliment “Marley” ($9) at the tip. Zoya polish is available locallly at Salon Papillon (1088 Old Des Peres, 314-966-8813).
Reverse It
For the Delpozo collection, Julie Kandalec designed a reverse-French, half-moon manicure using Essie’s “Tart Deco” ($8.50), a coral tone.
But it was the alternating half-moons using the minty OPI “Hula-rious” polish (available February 4) applied by manicurist Miss Pop for Charlotte Ronson’s collection that captured our attention.
Madeline Poole of Christian Louboutin Beauté used gold half-moon stickers over a baby-pink hue in the Christian Louboutin Nudes Collection ($50) at Cushnie et Ochs.
And at Carmen Marc Valvo, Gina Edwards of Morgan Taylor used “Little Black Dress” ($8.50) in black. She then edged the cuticle with “Oh Snap, It’s Silver” ($5.74).
