El Dia de los Muertos is a Hispanic holiday in which the living honor their lost loved ones with beautifully decorated altars, adorned with sugar skulls, marigolds and even favorite foods of the departed.
This Sunday, Hispanic Festival, Inc. will present a free Dia de los Muertos celebration at the Missouri History Musem. The event will showcase ten altars, including ones from Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela, which will be decorated by local Hispanic artists and community organizations. There will also be dance and music performances at the event, including appearances by Alma de Mexico Folkloric Dancers, Bolivian Dancers, Panamanian Dancers, and Junior Sandoval, a Mexican singer. Local Hispanic art will be showcased, and there will even be a children’s area, which will include face painting and crafts.
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) happens November 3 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Activities are scheduled throughout the museum, which is located at 5700 Lindell in Forest Park. The festival is free. For more information, call 314-746-4599, or go to mohistory.org.
