We all have our Christmas traditions, whether it be going to Grandma’s for Christmas dinner, taking a family photo in ugly sweaters, or making homemade eggnog on Christmas Eve. For some, a favorite holiday tradition is seeing the Nebraska Theatre Caravan’s production of A Christmas Carol at the Fox Theatre (527 N. Grand). What better way to get into the spirit than with the classic Charles Dickens Christmas story? The show runs from December 5 through 8, and this will mark the 25th time A Christmas Carol has been performed at the Fox.
St. Louis native Andrew Tebo is thrilled to be a part of the show’s cast for the third year running. This is his second year playing “The Ghost of Christmas Present,” and it has become part of his own holiday tradition.
“It’s a pretty quick tour because of the timing,” Tebo says. “You can only do A Christmas Carol for about a month” (this year it tours from November 29 through December 23), but, he points out, it is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit. Tebo laughs, “We’ve been singing Christmas carols for more than three weeks now.”
Part of the excitement for Tebo is getting to be back in St. Louis. He mentions, “My parents are there, as well as a huge community of people that I grew up with, all of my friends from grade school, high school…everyone still resides in St. Louis. So it will be a fun time to be back during the holidays and get to be home at the Fox Theatre.”
Tebo encourages people to make the show part of their holiday tradition. “Everyone knows the story of A Christmas Carol, and the story of Scrooge. It really is this exciting journey that you go on with Scrooge. You’re going to come to A Christmas Carol and you are going to laugh, you are going to cry, and you are going to rejoice at the end. It is a true, heartfelt Christmas classic and I think anyone that comes and sees this production—and it is a beautiful, traditional theatre production—is going to go through a very emotional night and have a wonderful time.”
