The Delmar Loop’s resident comic book shop, Star Clipper (6392 Delmar, 314-725-9110), will be participating in Free Comic Book Day on May 5 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. It is a national event celebrated every year on the first Saturday in May, which almost always coincides with a major comic book movie release. In this case, it comes a day after Marvel’s superhero mega-crossover The Avengers hits theaters in the U.S.
While all attendees while receive a free comic book, they can’t just pluck their favorite title off the shelves—they will receive a new comic specially printed for the event.

“There’s different levels of sponsorship for the event, but each company produces at least on special comic for the event,” said Nick Kuntz, assistant manager at Star Clipper. “One company is offering a hardcover book that’s about 48 pages. And all of the titles are all-ages friendly.”
Star Clipper will go the extra mile and offer costumed superheroes, live music from local bands, and an appearance by acclaimed comic book writer Jason Aaron. There should be something for everyone from hardcore fans to curious neophytes.
