October First Friday: Igor Karash / Anna Schenker / Melissa Whiteman

The Foundry Art Centre is excited to announce the opening of three new solo exhibitions by Igor Karash, Anna Schenker, & Melissa Whiteman.

Dive into Kurt Vonnegut’s semi-autobiographical science fiction-infused anti-war novel Slaughterhouse-Five in Igor Karash’s Illustrating Slaughterhouse-Five. This exhibition features a select series of commissioned illustrations Karash completed for the limited edition of the book for Easton Press in 2025. Based in St. Louis, Azerbaijani-born Igor Karash is an award-winning illustrator whose work has been widely published both nationally and internationally. His work has been featured in numerous publications, including TASCHEN’s The Illustrator: 100 Best Illustrators from Around the Globe.

Artist and educator Anna Schenker’s exhibition, Observations, presents rubbings, paintings, and sculptures that record direct interaction with her immediate surroundings. Through physical actions and systems for making, she uses touch as a tool to gain understanding and preserve a moment in time. These close investigations seek to slow down our initial perception of environments and create space for wonder and play.

In Dark Horizons, Melissa Whiteman’s meticulously detailed paintings explore the raw power and inexplicable beauty of Midwest storms. Much like her subject matter, Whiteman’s process evolves and changes, sometimes turbulently, with the hope that each painting will capture the fleeting beauty of ever-changing skies.

These new exhibitions will open Friday, October 2, 5-8pm, as part of the Foundry Art Centre’s First Friday programming. Art activities, live music by Chloe Hoth, the Foundry bar, and more will be available throughout the evening.

All exhibitions are free and open to the public. Exhibitions run through November 21.
