Dining / Negroni Week 2017 kicks off in St. Louis

Negroni Week 2017 kicks off in St. Louis

More than a dozen local bars and restaurants are celebrating the classic cocktail and giving back.

The fifth annual celebration of Negroni Week, June 5–11, is upon us.

In 2013, Imbibe Magazine and Campari teamed up to create a national movement to not only celebrate a classic cocktail that’s regaining popularity at rapid speed, but to also raise money for organizations around the world. Their mission? “Seven days, three ingredients, one simple way to give back.”

Since its inaugural year, Negroni Week events have gone global and have helped raise more than $900,000 for charities through the involvement of over 6,000 venues. St. Louis’ booming and ever-evolving cocktail industry has been an active participant in previous years, but 2017 will be the biggest yet.

Spearheading much of the local effort is the St. Louis division of the United States Bartenders Guild, a tenured organization approaching nearly 100 chapters nationwide. It’s dedicated to “uniting the hospitality community to advance professional bartending.”

More than a dozen area bars and restaurants have created distinctive Negroni Week cocktail menus and drinks, with even more showcasing the classic preparation: equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth. As with any traditional drink, local bartenders will put their personal spin on the base recipe—and not just by adding extra ingredients. Selecting what gin to use can completely distinguish one negroni from another. Therefore, you would be hard-pressed to find two of the same in this city.

Along with the opportunity to sip around town, multiple locations are offering Negroni-themed events, including classes and cocktail parties.

Share your experience by posting updates and photos on social media using the hashtag #NegroniWeek.
