Besides having developed a superior brined, breaded, and broasted chicken sandwich, Mike Johnson and his partners at Chicken Out are also master punsters. The flagship location has a “Balk-Up” Window; there’s a mural of a guitar-playing “Cluck” Berry with a rooster’s head; and there are punny menu items, such as Mo Parm Mo Foul and the occasional ChickRib special. After opening the flagship location on the Delmar Loop (6197 Delmar), Johnson and company opened the second location in Kirkwood (10463 Manchester) last August.
Beginning this week, both locations of Chicken Out will roll out “Flappy Hour,” a weekday happy hour (Mon-Fri, 2 to 6 p.m.) featuring discounted chicken sandwich and tender combo meals, plus a variety of “flappetizers,” a rotating coop of specialty appetizers, such as corn nuggets, cheese fries (Red Hot Riplet, bacon, or regular), cheese curds, soft pretzels, and more.

Flappy Hour specials offer a $4 discount on combo meals, a $1 discount on the Kids Combo Meal, and $1 off all beer purchases. The special pricing is available for dine-in only orders from 2–5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Also new this week: Chicken Out Pils, a collaboration beer with Narrow Gauge Brewery and The Wine and Cheese Place. The brewers at Narrow Gauge crafted the pilsner with fried chicken in mind, using fruit-forward, tropical hops, including New Zealand’s “Wai-iti” hops and German “Callista” hops. The Chicken Out Pils is best described as a Kellerbier (a German-style lager with malt complexities and citrus notes). Four packs of the beer will also be available for purchase in 16-ounce cans for $12.99 at The Wine and Cheese Place (all locations) and both Chicken Out locations.
