Two new eating and drinking establishments–The Rustic Goat and The Coliseum Music Lounge–are currently under construction on the northwest corner of Washington and Jefferson Avenues, on the ground floor below the brightly-colored GW Loft Apartments. The address of The Goat is 2617 Washington, which puts it technically in Midtown, but what will still be considered “Downtown” to many.
The Rustic Goat is a monster space – 6500 SF, plus two separate mezzanines and a patio in the rear. It will serve as a restaurant at lunch and dinner hours, and morph into more of a live music venue “when the night gets young,” according to owner David Holmon. (Holman was the previous owner of In Spot dessert bar and lounge at 5851 Delmar.) One focal point in the sprawling, high-ceilinged space is the roundish, irregularly-shaped stage Holmon accurately described as a “cog.”

Although the menu is still in the formative stages, Holman offered that it would be “more restaurant than bar or club.” Look for an opening in late May.
The Rustic Goat occupies the rocking chair space between The Coliseum Music Lounge to the west (projected opening in May as well) and the Washington Avenue Grill to the east (see below), which opened a month ago. More info as we gather it.
