The Green Goose Opens Second Location in Webster Groves

The larger location allows more room for merchandise, and for more people to attend the store’s monthly Maison Blanche Vintage Furniture Paint workshops.

The Green Goose Resale and Consignment drew a crowd on Saturday, August 27 for the opening of its second location in Yorkshire Village (1267 S. Laclede Station Road, 314-961-4444). By the time the doors opened at 10 a.m., nearly 200 people were waiting in line.

“We decided to open a second location because of increased interest from the consumer who wants to save money, not spend a fortune, but also get quality,” says owner Robin McNabb, who started the resale furniture and home décor store five years ago in St. Louis Hills (5611 Hampton Ave., 314-352-5000).

Inventory is constantly changing at the stores because most items are sold through consignment. On any given day, a customer might find an antique from the 1920s alongside a brand-new sofa—which is how McNabb says customers are decorating these days, thanks, in part, to social media sites like Pinterest.

“We have over 3,000 consignors, and we look for condition, construction, marketability,” she says. “Right now, gray is everywhere, so we look for accessories that would go well in homes with gray upholstered furniture or rooms that are painted gray.”

At just over 6,100-square-feet, the new location is three times larger than the original store, allowing more room for merchandise, and for the number of people who can sign up for the store’s monthly Maison Blanche Vintage Furniture Paint workshops.

For $65, participants receive the materials necessary to paint a small item like a table or nightstand. Then, they take that experience and knowledge and use it on larger projects.

“We have so much more space,” McNabb says. “We could only have five or six in the workshop before, but now we hope to have 10 or 12.”

Beginning this month, McNabb plans to move the workshops to the Webster Groves location. Visit www.greengoose.com/news—events.html for the schedule.
