For architectural firm Schaub & Srote, this Tuscan Mediterranean–inspired home presented some design challenges. For starters, the homeowners wanted views of their 3-acre Missouri property from every room in the house. Architect Robert Srote resolved this by designing a long, elegant footprint and incorporating floor-to-ceiling windows across the rear of the home. When the clients asked that a meandering stream on the site be highlighted, Srote built a floating steel-and-glass catwalk over it, connecting the residence to the garage and RV barn. The garage itself needed to accommodate five cars, a 40-foot RV, and a workshop. Srote positioned the automobile and RV bays perpendicular to each other and placed the workshop behind the garage. “Every project presents distinct design opportunities,” he says. “This one allowed us to develop a design solution that met the client’s needs while preserving the environment."
