Chester, a Tenth Life rescue cat.
Last year, our Managing Ed Bryan Hollerbach wrote a wonderful little piece in At Home about cat rescue operation Clowder House. While looking through the Green With Indie vendors for artists to feature in upcoming issues, I discovered this cleverly-named new nonprofit that also dedicates itself to rescuing cats: Tenth Life. And of course, if you've been reading the papers, you know there are plenty of animals, including cats, that have suffered as much (if not more) than their humans during this horrible recession. You can see some writeups of some of the cats they've worked with so far, including charmers like the ginger tabby above, on their blog. If you're not in a spot to adopt a cat right now but want to help, Cranky Yellow is throwing a Kitty Kitty Art Party on Tuesday, April 21, a fundraiser for Tenth Life featuring cat-themed art, excellent snacks and the Circus Cats of Chicago! --Stefene Russell
