Find beer, music, art and more at Cherokee Street’s mile-long Brewed Arts Festival

The August 20 fest gives attendees the opportunity to explore art spaces and small businesses on Cherokee while sipping on craft brews curated by St. Louis Hop Shop.

Brewed Arts Festival, a brand-new event hosted by the Cherokee Street Foundation, will fill a mile-long stretch of the historic block between Compton Avenue and Lemp Avenue on August 20. Attendees can browse artisan goods at more than 20 small businesses while they sip on an extensive tasting menu of brews during this afternoon of suds, shopping, and live music. The drink selections have been specially curated by the craft beer store St. Louis Hop Shop, and featured local brands include Schlafly Beer, 4 Hands Brewing Co., and 2nd Shift Brewing.

“What’s unique about the event is that all those tastings will be in the small businesses on Cherokee Street—the thrift shops, the art spaces, existing bars,” says Emily Thenhaus, executive director of the Cherokee Street Foundation. “It gives folks a cool opportunity to check out some places they might not have been before.”

Thenhaus says one of the event’s goals is to celebrate Cherokee Street’s vibrant creative community. To that end, the festival will feature live paintings provided by The Screwed Arts Collective, a group of the street’s prominent “thinkers, visual artists, and musicians,” according to their Facebook page. Alongside these visual performances, guests can catch sets from six local DJs who will be stationed at various points on the route.

“I think it’s going to be a really great day to launch this new event,” Thenhaus says. “Most of our events on Cherokee Street have been around for 10 to 15 years, so we’re excited to get some of these new events going, especially now that we’re able to celebrate more in person.”

Brewed Arts Festival events are from 1-5 p.m. on August 20. Tickets are $40 and are available through Cherokee Street’s official website. For those interested in a discount, coupon codes for 25 percent off will be available at Earthbound Beer or Bluewood Brewing in the days leading up to the event.
