St. Louis Magazine recently received seven finalist selections from a national panel of judges—composed of representatives from such publications as Esquire, National Geographic, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Time, and The Washington Post—in the 2018 City & Regional Magazine Awards.
St. Louis Magazine was the only publication with a circulation under 60,000 to be named a finalist in both the prestigious General Excellence and Excellence Online categories, recognizing consistently outstanding work in print and digital journalism. It was one of only 13 publications among 70-plus CRMA member titles to receive seven or more selections.
Design director Tom White was also named as a finalist in the distinguished Designer of the Year category, recognizing stellar design work. A sweets-inspired bridal fashion portfolio that White oversaw, “The Perfect Recipe,” was a finalist in the Feature Design category.

Staff writer Jeannette Cooperman’s profile “Coming Home”—a funny and poignant look at the life of writer George Hodgman, whose bestselling memoir, Bettyville, chronicled his transition from working as an editor at Vanity Fair to caring for his aging mother in rural Missouri—was selected as a finalist in the Profile category.
Last year, Cooperman’s feature “The Mission,” an in-depth examination of Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens in the months before his election, won the Profile category award. The New York Times later deemed the article “prescient.”
Two other stories by Cooperman—“Too Much Money”, describing the biggest (and clumsiest) heist in St. Louis history, and “Faith, Hope, and Blame,” about a young priest’s fight against accusations of sexual abuse—were selected as finalists in the Feature Story category.
Winners will be announced during CRMA’s annual conference, June 2–4, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
