1. The penultimate stop before heading to France for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup is Busch Stadium. The U.S. Women’s National Team plays New Zealand on May 16 at 7 p.m.
2. This isn’t the first time Team USA has faced off against New Zealand at Busch Stadium. In 2015, the team won 4–0 there.
3. The U.S. women’s team is recognized as one of the best in the world. Since the inception of the Women’s World Cup, in 1991, just four countries have won the seven top honors. The U.S. won in 1991, 1999, and 2015, so they’re also the defending champions.
4. Look out for St. Louis native Becky Sauerbrunn, a defender, on the field. Sauerbrunn played youth soccer for J.B. Marine. We talked with with the pro athlete about her return to Busch and fighting for equal pay earlier this April.
5. Another one to watch: midfielder Carli Lloyd, who won the Best FIFA Women’s Player award in both 2015 and 2016.
