We're not crying, you're crying.
Athletes flocked to Los Angeles for last night's 2019 ESPY Awards, and St. Louisans had their own reason to tune in as the Blues took home the "Best Comeback" award. After transforming from last in the League to Stanley Cup Champions, the award seemed like a perfect end to a fairy-tale story.
Another fairy-tale moment? Ryan O'Reilly giving a shout-out to super-fan Laila Anderson. Laila is an 11-year old girl battling a life-threatening autoimmune disease whose love for the Blues led to her forming friendships with several of the players and getting to attend Game 7 in Boston. She has her own bobblehead with the proceeds going to St. Louis Children's Hospital and some Blues fans even signed a petition in an effort to get her name added to the Stanley Cup.
"Someone who I really want to mention here—which is kind of our story and I think I speak for all of us—she's a true inspiration, and that's Laila Anderson," O'Reilly says. Watch below:
Bonus: Watch the players sing "Gloria" after sucking in helium from a balloon.
