For 21 years, the River City Rascals played at CarShield Field in O'Fallon, Missouri.
The River City Rascals, the professional baseball team located in O'Fallon, Missouri, will no longer play at the city's CarShield Field come the end of the 2019 baseball season—ending a 21-year run. The city has already started looking for another team to play at the field. The news comes after the team's owners, PS&J Baseball and the city negotiated a new lease last week, after the team "had previously agreed to a one-year lease for 2019 with the intention of working toward a long-term lease."
Reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the employees and players were made aware of the news last Sunday, August 11.
"We are grateful to the residents and business owners who have supported our organization for the past two decades," David Schmoll, general manager of the Rascals said in a press release released on August 12. "O'Fallon has been a great location for our team over the years, and it will continue to be a great location for minor league baseball in the future."
According to the release, the Rascals will continue to have events at the stadium through the end of the year. In addition, if an organization has an event scheduled at the field before December 31, 2019, they will "be contacted to ensure their event goes as planned."
Now, the team and O'Fallon will begin discussing transferring operations to the city or to a future tenant.
