The Blues, for the first time in history, are the Stanley Cup winners, beating the Boston Bruins in Game 7 on the road at Boston's TD Garden on Wednesday night. The final score was 4-1.
The Blues scored early in the first period and again before it ended, not giving up any goals in the second. When the team scored a third goal halfway through the last period and a fourth soon after, crowds at Enterprise Center and Bush Stadium erupted in cheer.
Watch the final moments of the historic victory here:
It was the first time since 2011 that the Stanley Cup was decided in Game 7 (and back then Boston was the winner). Ahead of Wednesday's game, the Blues and Bruins were tied 3-3 in the Stanley Cup Finals, a remarkable turnaround for a team that was ranked last in the NHL ahead of the playoffs.
The Blues' playing in the Cup Finals marks the first time in 49 years the team has done so. The hockey team, added to the National Hockey League in 1967 as an expansion team, played in the Cup in 1968, 1969, and 1970 (when they lost to the Bruins).
Hours ahead of game time, the energy (and anxiety) was high back home in St. Louis.
Some asked the big guy upstairs for some assistance.
We all cried a little when we found out Blues superfan Laila Anderson was cleared to head to Boston to watch the game.
St. Louis rapper Nelly gave a shoutout while on tour.
And the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra played the composition from which the team takes its name.
But our favorite pre-win Twitter post? St. Louis native Jenna Fischer, who played Pam on The Office.
When the team arrived at Lambert around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, fans showed up to greet them.
And the cover of the July issue?
