A Change.org petition to have Laila Anderson’s name added to the Stanley Cup already has over 1,700 signatures. The petition was launched by a user named John Mueller on Thursday, according to the site.
Arguably the Blues’ biggest fan, Laila is an 11-year-old girl battling a life-threatening autoimmune disease. She befriended several players, including Colton Parayko, Alex Steen, and Pat Maroon after she underwent a bone-marrow transplant in January.
At the same time the Blues started getting better, so did she. She scored a VIP invite to Game 7 in Boston, and we all cried happy tears when she got to kiss the Stanley Cup on the ice following the game.
The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum also recently launched a Laila bobblehead, with proceeds going to St. Louis Children's Hospital.
Mueller wrote on Change.org that: “In special circumstances it is possible to petition the commissioner of the NHL (Gary Bettman) to have someone’s name added to the cup with the winning team. I believe Laila Anderson has earned a place on Lord Stanley’s Cup alongside the rest of the St. Louis Blues players.”
The petition is addressed to Bettman, the NHL, the Blues, the City of St. Louis, Mayor Lyda Krewson, and Missouri Governor Mike Parson.
