John Mosbacher has watched several World Series games during his 31-year tenure with the St. Louis Cardinals, currently as the video director for the main video board at Busch Stadium. From the Kiss Cam and the Cap Dance, as well as replays and other spots, he is the captain of a nine-person crew during postseason games.
"Our job and goal is to keep the crowd as engaged as possible," Mosbacher says, "to keep the team pumped, so they can rally. The Cardinals have a great home record this season and have for many years; that's basically because of their loyal fan base."
In addition to working with the Cardinals, Mosbacher has almost 40 years of video experience with the St. Louis Rams, KPLR Channel 11, and his current day job at Boeing.
"I'm blessed to have a second job like this," he says. "Other people might have a part-time job, but I don't think it compares to this job. It's just a lot of fun."
The championship run of 2006, the club's first championship in 25 years, is Mosbacher's favorite World Series memory. Some of his co-workers had joked that he was a jinx, since he started the year after the team's 1982 championship season.
"In 2006, when they won, apparently the curse had been lifted, and I was absolved of all the bad stuff that I had brought," he says.
Overall, Mosbacher cites his teammates behind the scenes as a big reason as why he enjoys his job so much.
"They're all great people," Mosbacher says. "They love baseball. They're all into it. It makes for a nice time. It's always much better when the Cardinals are winning. I was there in the lean years, and it wasn't as quite as much fun. What a ride this has been."
