Mumford said he thought the crowd was booing him.
Popular British band Mumford & Sons played a concert in St. Louis on Saturday night, but music wasn’t all the sold-out crowd was cheering for.
Frontman Marcus Mumford had to pause during the show to ask about an unexpected sound coming from the audience, a sound St. Louisans will recognize as the LGB chant: “Let’s Go, Bluuuuuues!”
“Are you shouting, Blues?” a perplexed Mumford asked his fans as the band gathered to perform an acoustic set.
St. Louis hockey fans roared in response. After all, the Blues were tied with the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2016 playoffs at the time, and Mumford was playing at Scottrade Center, the Blues’ home ice.
“I thought you were either really keen on Bruce Springsteen coming tonight, which he’s not, or else you were just booing us,” Mumford said.
“Anyway, it’s not a f***ing hockey game, so shut the f*** up.”
Let’s see if Blues fans find a way to make this into a rally cry, like they did when the team’s Instagram moderator accidentally posted an autocorrect typo.
