Hot: St. Louis Soccer
Locals Becky Sauerbrunn and Lori Chalupny helped the U.S. win the Women’s World Cup, and TV ratings here soared. You can watch in person when Saint Louis FC closes out its inaugural season this month.
Warm: Missouri Baseball
The Royals and Cardinals are each in first place, and Gov. Jay Nixon announced that baseballs signed by players from both teams would be buried in a new time capsule. But he also put in a lump of coal, so perhaps the bar for inclusion wasn’t set very high.
Cool: Confederate Memorial
The column in Forest Park honoring the fallen sons of the South has been controversial ever since it was erected in 1914. After the Charleston massacre, Rep. Lacy Clay described it as “divisive, alienating, and racially charged.”
Cold: St. Louis Police Department
Two years ago, the city regained local control of its cops. So far, not so good. Crime is up in 2015, and city leaders have responded by pointing fingers. The buck has not yet found a place to stop.
