A former United States vice president is headed to St. Louis.
Joe Biden, who served under President Barack Obama, will make a stop in the Gateway City on June 14 during his American Promise Tour in support of his memoir, Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose. Biden will speak at the Peabody Opera House, and tickets ($42–$247) go on sale this Friday, April 6 at 10 a.m.
The event marks one of his final stops on the tour, which just added nine new dates in nine different cities.
“I’m grateful to have the opportunity to continue this tour and hear from so many more people,” Biden said in a release.
While on his American Promise Tour, Biden has spoken about "the big political moments of his career, the life-altering choices he made, and the key traits that have helped him persevere through challenges." The events often included guest moderators, including Tom Brokaw, Melinda Gates, Stephen Colbert, John Green, Leslie Odom Jr., and Aaron Sorkin.
Biden's memoir, which was published last fall, follows the former vice president in the year of 2015, his "most momentous and challenging year." For those 12 months, Biden was balancing his career as the vice president and his family as his son Beau battled brain cancer (he passed away that year in May).
"Writing with poignancy and immediacy," a release said, "Vice President Biden allows readers to feel the urgency of each moment, to experience the days when he felt unable to move forward, as well as the days when he felt like he could not afford to stop."
