Finding the right apartment can be a challenge, with such considerations as walkability, pricing, and more. If you have a pet, it's even harder. Some places have breed restrictions or allow dogs up to a particular size—if they accept animals at all. But renting with pets is an area where Missouri seems be leading the pack.
RENTCafé, a website in which users can search for area apartments, recently released a listing of the 50 best cities for people with pets to rent. The website analyzed cities with more than 100 listings on the site by how many of the city's rental properties are pet-friendly (50 percent weight), the cost of monthly pet rent (25 percent weight), if there are additional charges for renting with a pet (20 percent weight), and how many pets are allowed in a unit (5 percent weight).
Florissant took the top spot, with 91 percent of the site's listed rentals accepting animals for an average monthly payment of $21 and an additional $233 of one-time charges.
At No. 4, Kansas City boasts 73 percent of the area's properties listed on the site allowing three pets in a unit for an average rent of $21 per month and $205 in additional one-time costs.
Coming in at No. 7 is St. Louis, where 81 percent of rental properties allow pets (60 percent average for cats and dogs), an average rent of $25, and average one-time costs around $218.
The list's other top spots include Atlanta (No. 2); Birmingham, Alabama (No. 3); Denver (No. 5); Philadelphia (No. 6); Madison, Wisconsin (No. 8); Cincinnati, Ohio (No. 9); and Chicago (No. 10).
