Three of the seven pieces of artwork by Andy Warhol stolen from a Missouri museum.
The eyes of the art world are on Missouri after thieves made off with a set of Andy Warhol’s famous “Campbell Soup” prints worth $500,000.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information about the artwork stolen from the Springfield Art Museum, which has owned the artwork since 1985.
Officials say thieves broke into the Springfield museum in the early morning hours of April 7 and stole seven of ten screenprint works on permanent display. Each painting in the collection, which is set No. 31 of the entire Campbell’s Soup I work, measures 37 inches by 24.5 inches and is encased in a white frame.
“For those of us who work at the museum and in Springfield’s art community, the theft of these iconic Warhol prints that the museum has had in our permanent collection for 30 years feels like the loss of a family member,” said museum director Nick Nelson. “We appreciate any assistance the public can provide to law enforcement to ensure the return of these treasured pieces of art.”
