For those of us who see their pets as members of the family, relegating them to the cargo section of the airplane has always been a source of stress.
Luckily for us, a pet-only airline will soon be flying out of Lambert International Airport that guarantees our beloved pooch or feline will be treated as a passenger rather than a piece of luggage.
Flordia-based Pet Airways will begin flying out of Lambert International Airport this summer and will be taking reservations starting this spring, according to the Post-Dispatch. The Pawsengers, as the airline calls them, will fly in a climate-controlled cabin, with attendants checking on them every 15 minutes.
The airline transports mostly dogs and cats, but it can accommodate for most other animals (except for rabbits), according to its website (petairways.com). Prices start at $99 and are based on size of the animal and distance traveled.
Launched in 2009 by a husband and wife team, Pet Airways currently flies out of Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver, Omaha, Chicago, Baltimore, New York, Atlanta and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. In addition to St. Louis, the airline is adding service to Dallas, Houston and Austin, Texas, and Orlando, Fla.
