Remember Shahid Khan, the businessman from Urbana, Ill., who entered into a sales agreement to purchase the St. Louis Rams in February 2010—before Stan Kroenke exercised his right of first refusal and became the majority owner instead?
Now, it appears Khan will become the owner of another NFL team: the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"I am honored to have recently signed an agreement with Wayne Weaver and his partners to purchase the Jacksonville Jaguars,” he noted in an official statement from the team. “Owning a team in the National Football League has long been my personal and professional goal.”
Khan now awaits the NFL’s review process, at the same time that speculation continues regarding which team will move to Los Angeles' future $1.2 billion state-of-the-art stadium.
In the mean time, there are other big moves in Jacksonville: The Jaguars today reportedly fired head coach Jack Del Rio, who had recently announced that former Parkway West and University of Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert will remain the team's starter, despite his rookie-season struggles.
