Another day, another ranking! On the heels of lists ranking St. Louis tops for crime, walkability, and cheapskates, two more lists released over the weekend included St. Louis in the mix, and they both have to do with how much St. Louisans get paid.
On Friday, CareerBliss.com released its list of the top 10 cities where graduates are likely to land high salaries. Guess which city made the No. 1 spot? Our own Saint Louie. CareerBliss used a measurement it calls a BlissScore and added the average adjusted salary based on a cost of living index into the mix. The data evaluates several key factors that affect work happiness including: employees’ relationships with their bosses and co-workers, their work environments, job resources, compensation, growth opportunities, company culture, company reputation, their daily tasks and the level of control employees have over the work that they do on a daily basis. Salt Lake City came in at No. 2, followed by Jacksonville, Fla., Memphis, Tenn., and Indianapolis.
Then today, as reported by the St. Louis Business Journal, an analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found that the typical worker in the St. Louis metro area was paid $44,210 last year, which ranks St. Louis the 95th highest-paid metro area out of 387, landing the city in the top 25 percent. The national average was $45,230. High-cost-of-living locales such as San Jose, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. topped the list, all around $65,000.
