Grab a bottle of wine and a bottle of bug spray: Summer's best free evening event is finally here! The Whitaker Music Festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw, 314-577-5100) kicks off this Wednesday, May 30th.
While I'm usually loathe to use or carry anything that will make me look beyond my years, I'm seriously considering buying one of those metal bag-lady carts with wheels. I need to come up with some ways to get my goods from my car to the faraway lawn without getting cranky.
However you choose to carry your goods, there are essentials you shouldn't forget. The aforementioned sips and spray should be first on your list, but there are other goodies that will make you an enviable concert goer: a big, non-itchy, sturdy blanket; a picnic basket filled with wine, cheese, olives and other delightful delectables; and a couple of Crazy Creeks and you'll be set!
The concert starts at 7.30 p.m., but you're welcome to come set up camp any time after 5 p.m., and the early birds get the good spots. Even if you aren't going for the music per se, blues musician Marquise Knox will be an added bonus. Though still a young pup, the 21-year-old comes from a long line of Mississippi blues men and has it in his blood. He recorded his first album, appropriately titled Manchild, when he was just 16.
