It's that time of year again when giant inflatables in shapes from bunnies to beer bottles hit Central Field in Forest Park for the annual Balloon Glow.
A day before the balloon race, hot-air balloons are roped down and lit up from 7 to 8:30 p.m., offering spectacular views and a chance to step right up to these giant flying machines. Since this is a short and very popular event, getting there can get tricky. Avoid traveling by car at all costs. The best way to get there is on foot via the metro, or you can park in the Central West End and walk over.
If you get hungry, refreshments and food booths dot the field. The event will conclude with the PNC Bank fireworks finale display beginning at approximately 9 p.m.
And if you can't make it to the Balloon Glow tonight, or just can't get enough, check out the Balloon Race from noon to 6:30 on Saturday, also at Central Field. The race includes fun activities for kids, a photo contest, skydivers, live local entertainment, and more.
Both the Balloon Glow and Balloon Race are free to attend.
